Choosing a space for your gym is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. While location plays a huge role in the success of your facility, what do you do when you’ve found the perfect spot for your gym but are faced with an oddly-shaped interior?
The Right Mats Make All the Difference
Zebra’s tatami and MMA mats are rectangular in shape and are great for perfectly square rooms. However, as much as we would love for all the gyms we design to have simple shapes, it’s a common occurrence for our team to encounter uneven or even strangely shaped areas that need to be matted. With that in mind, Zebra has designed their mats to be adapted to any area for a custom design.
The Secret is Within
Zebra mats are made from dense foam with recycled carpet fibers and covered in either tatami (textured) or smooth vinyl. They’re strong and durable enough to hold up to years of training and pounding, but can be easily cut to fit your space. A simple box cutter is able to slice through the vinyl and foam, allowing you to trim mats to fit slanted walls or sharply angled corners (see our mat cutting guide). With accurate measurements of the space, Zebra’s sales team can design a layout showing you where to make those cuts and how to fit the newly cut mats into your room. Poles, columns, or other stationary fixtures are also not an issue, as the mats can be cut to fit around them, and pole pads can be added to provide cushion for safe MMA or Jiu Jitsu training in the gym.
Choose the Right Location (and Mats!)
If you’re still searching for your next location, don’t let a great spot pass you by for fear that you’ll unable to put mats in an unusual space. Zebra’s team will help you design a layout that works for you – and your students.
